Beef Share
Buying a beef share is one of the best ways to fill your freezer with locally raised, farm-fresh beef — custom cut just the way you like it.
When you purchase a share, you’re buying a portion of one of our pasture-raised, grain-fed steers, raised right here on our farm in Denton, Maryland. You can choose a whole, half, or quarter share, depending on your family’s needs and freezer space
How It Works
-
Reserve Your Share
Place a deposit to reserve your portion of the next available steer. We’ll keep you updated every step of the way.
-
Custom Cut to Your Liking
Once the animal is processed, you’ll fill out a cut sheet with the butcher to choose exactly how you’d like your beef packaged — from steak thickness to roast size and ground beef portions.
-
Pick Up & Enjoy
When your beef is ready, you’ll pick it up fresh-frozen, neatly labeled, and ready for your freezer. Everything is vacuum-sealed and clearly marked, so it’s easy to plan meals and minimize waste.

How We’re Different
You may have seen farms or companies offering “Beef Boxes” or “Quarter Boxes” — those are pre-selected assortments of cuts that are already boxed and frozen. They can be convenient, but you don’t get a say in what’s inside — you might end up with cuts you rarely use mixed in with your favorites.
At In Spite of Ourselves LLC, our beef shares are different.
When you buy a share from us, you’re purchasing a portion of a single steer — not a mix from multiple animals. You’ll work directly with the butcher to complete a custom cut sheet, which lets you decide:
-
Steak thickness
-
Roast size
-
How much ground beef you want
-
Whether you’d like extras like short ribs, stew meat, brisket, soup bones, or organs
That means you get exactly what your family will eat, all from an animal that was pasture-raised, grain-fed, and cared for right here on our farm. No surprises — just honest, local beef you can feel good about.
Why Choose a Share?
-
Better Value: Buying in bulk saves money compared to retail cuts.
-
Transparency: You’ll know exactly where your beef comes from and how it was raised.
-
Quality: Our cattle are pasture-raised, grain-fed, and never rushed — resulting in flavorful, tender beef you’ll taste in every bite.
-
Convenience: Your freezer stays stocked with a wide variety of cuts — steaks, roasts, ground beef, and more.

How Much Meat Will I Get?
As a general guide, you’ll take home about 60% of the hanging weight as packaged beef.
For example, a half share from an 800-lb steer (at $6.50/lb hanging weight) will yield roughly 240–260 lbs of packaged beef, averaging about $10–11 per pound of take-home meat — including all processing and packaging.
Pricing includes butchering, packaging, and processing — no hidden fees. Price subject to change based on market conditions.
